More than 25 volunteers, both new and “veteran”, attended the recent College Ready kick-off event. Kudos to Laura Margosian, CSV’s director of high school programs, for organizing an outstanding line-up of speakers: George Finn and Janani Nathan from the CRLS Guidance Department, and Amanda Hughes, CRLS English teacher.
The kick-off marked the first of many weekly sessions that volunteers will have with CRLS seniors who are beginning the college application experience. Tutors learned about the guidance department’s expertise, the nuts and bolts of the college essay writing process, the Naviance college application software, application requirements and deadlines, the role of guidance and mentors, and much more.
College Ready mentors this year include many with backgrounds as teachers, guidance and career counselors, and journalists. The program begins its official schedule in mid-October. Thank you to new and returning mentors for your support of CRLS seniors, many of whom are the first in their families to apply to college!
