We need both brand new and returning volunteers. Sign up for a new volunteer orientation here. These are some of the most urgent needs that we have:
Upper School Opportunities (Grades 6–8)
After-school tutors, from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, in five Learning Centers. We provide structure and training.
High School Opportunities
After-school tutors (2:45 to 3:45 p.m.), in all subjects.
After-school tutors for athletes (2:35 to 4:15 p.m.), especially in the sciences and math.
Before-school tutors (7:30 to 8:00 a.m.), in all subjects.
Academic Support during the school day in the Tutoring Center.
College and Career Mentors to help seniors with the college essay and application process, primarily on Wednesday afternoons, 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.
Science Olympiad advisors to help students prepare for a particular event in your area of STEM expertise, between December and March. Some advising is done remotely, but some face-to-face meetings are required as well.
Classroom Assistants, as requested from CSV by teachers.
Elementary (K–5) School Opportunities
Literacy tutors and Publishing Center volunteers to help young students learn to read and write (Grades 1–3).
Reading Buddies volunteers read aloud weekly with young students in The Port neighborhood on Tuesdays at lunchtime (slots will re-open in January 2019, 12:30–1:00).
Classroom and Library volunteers, as requested by teachers and librarians.
Can you give at least one hour of your time per week for one semester? Great! Go to our How to Get Started page.
