In this era of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), there is nothing more exciting for some CRLS students than to engage in and prepare for the annual Science Olympiad (S.O.) competition. This year’s competition includes more than 20 events that range from Bungee Drop to GeoLogic Mapping, from Forensics to Mystery Engineering.
Join this year’s team of S.O. volunteer advisors and help the team prepare by trouble-shooting, exchanging ideas and offering support. It’s exciting, challenging and most of all, fun. The next training takes place on Thursday, December 12, from 5:30-8:00 pm. You can register here: http://www.csvinc.org/for-volunteers/how-to-get-started/.
Weekly sessions will begin soon. Science Olympiad volunteers meet with two students at the school for 1.5 hours per week in the afternoon, between 2:30 and 5:00, on a day of your choice, Monday through Friday. You will arrange your schedule with the students. Resources are available on-site that include practice tests, event descriptions, and computers. Volunteers may choose to assist on additional days and times. The competition takes place on Saturday, March 22, 2014.
Get in touch with that “inner scientist” all over again and give your time to an eager high school student!
