Current Volunteer Opportunities

Wondering what role you might play as a volunteer?

Below are some of the many opportunities available at both the elementary and high school levels. Contact our office if you are interested in a specific opportunity.

Elementary School Opportunities

1.  After-school Learning Center needs 1:1 or small group math tutors. Monday and Wednesday. 2:00-3:30 pm. Location: West Cambridge.

2.  Grade 5 in-class 1:1 math tutor needed any day, Monday thru Friday. 8:45-9:45 am for English Language Learner. Location: between Harvard and Porter Square.

3.  School near Harvard Square needs (1) Jr. Kindergarten/Kindergarten writing support, Mondays or Fridays, 10:00-11:00 am or Wednesdays from 12:00-1:00 pm; (2) Grade 5-6 reading and math support for Special Ed students - variable days and times; and (3) After-school homework helpers for 1:1 general academic support for Grades 6-8, any Monday, Tuesday or Thursday from 4:00-5:00 pm.

4. School near the Charles River/Riverside needs (1) 1st Grade in-class reading and writing support, any day from 9:00-10:00 am; (2) general Kindergarten classroom volunteer; and (3) Grade K-8 art volunteers, flexible times on Monday, Thursday mornings or Tuesday, Thursday afternoons.

5. Assist in K-8 art classrooms. Monday or Thursday morning; Tuesday or Thursday afternoon. Also, assistance in 5th/6th grade writing and math (Location: Cambridgeport)

6. K-8 art classroom assistance needed. Tuesday between 9:00 and 12:00 pm; Thursday and Friday between 9:00 and 3:00 pm. (Location: short walk from Harvard Square)

7. Small group and/or 1:1 writing and math support for Grades 5-6; flexible times. (Location: East Cambridge).

8. Spanish-speaker for middle school math students; flexible times. (Location: short walk from Central or Harvard Square).

9. Reading support needed for one Grade 6 student, Tuesdays from 9:40-10:40 am. Location: between Harvard and Porter Square.

10.  School within walking distance of Harvard Square needs (1) Grade 3-5 math support, Wednesdays from 2:00-2:50 pm; and (2) "Spanish As a Second Language thru Literacy" tutors for Grade 3; Spanish speaker any week day from 10:15-11:15 am or non-Spanish speaker on Mondays, Tuesdays or Thursdays from 12:00-12:45 pm.

11. School in East Cambridge looking for (1) Grade 5 math tutors to work in small groups or 1:1; 10:30-11:30 am any day or 12:30-1:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday or Friday; and (2) Grade 4 language arts and math support, 1:1 or small group, any afternoon at 12:30 pm.

High School Opportunities

1. Science Olympiad advisors still needed to support high school team in preparation for March '12 state competition. We especially need volunteers interested in helping with Robot Arm, Chem Lab, Remote Sensing, Thermodynamics, Optics, Forensics, Water Quality and Anatomy & Physiology.

2. English, history and math tutors needed Period 1, Tuesdays and Thursdays, at 8:00 a.m in the Tutoring Center

3. One-to-one math tutors needed - before and after school in the Tutoring Center

4. Chemistry, biology and physics volunteers needed before and after school in the Tutoring Center

5. Fridays from 8:00 to 2:30 pm - all subjects needed for during-school academic support classes in the Tutoring Center

 6. Classroom assistants needed in: Physics, Biology, Epidemiology, Algebra, Pre-Calculus and Geometry
