Is spring for real? We’re glad you won’t need your Arctic gear this Thursday evening when we welcome you to Kendall Square for CSV Now! If you haven’t been before to our annual fundraiser—that’s okay, we’re putting on something a little bit different this year. Of course, your ticket price, silent auction bids, and raffle tickets still support our infrastructure for finding, screening, matching and supervising hundreds of volunteers who donate their time, empathy, and kindness to students in the Cambridge Public Schools. There were over 900 such volunteers last year, and we are grateful for every single one of them and for this year’s corps, which is approaching that number. We hope some of you who ARE those volunteers will come to celebrate with us this Thursday
We’re excited that the local community of businesses and organizations have offered a smörgåsbord of high-value items to help support tutoring and mentoring in the schools.
And we’re delighted that Google has donated two laptop computers to us for this fundraiser.
One of the Chromebooks is in our silent auction; the other is a Chromebook Pixel LTE valued at $1,499 that we’ll raffle off in our “March of the Ducklings.” Since there’s a large fountain at our host location, Genzyme (the champion sponsor of the event), we leave the scene to your imagination! (We promise you won’t get wet.) Buy one duck for $20 (or three for $50).
Since there are only 150 ducks…well, here’s a chance to practice your math to figure out the odds—if you happen to be a tutor in our learning centers, this will be a piece of cake.
Two tickets to see the Boston Ballet’s “Edge of Vision” are on the silent auction block, as are a $100 gift card to Commonwealth, a Kendall Square establishment owned and made magical by Cambridge local Chef Steve (“Nookie”) Postal (erstwhile executive chef to the Red Sox. Pot Roast “Nana Style,” P-Town oysters, Lamb Merguez, anyone? There are over thirty interesting items in the silent auction—something for everyone.
At CSV Now! you’ll also tap your feet to Urban Legends, the Rindge Avenue Upper School’s own homegrown stars, as they wield their drumsticks. The CRLS Delivery Boys, an impromptu jazz quintet, will also be helping to usher in spring. We’re excited to have some of the talent of our city’s youth on display. Unlocking that talent, of course, is at the root of what we do—that’s what you’re supporting when you buy your ticket to CSV Now!, bid on an auction item, or—if your dance card is filled already this Thursday—make a donation to Cambridge School Volunteers. Tickets to the event and donation opportunities are here. We hope to lay eyes on you Thursday—volunteers and community-minded friends (of Cambridge’s promising next generation!) alike.
A full list of the auction items, including Red Sox, Celtics, and vacation packages, is here.
