Math Workshops
Learning Center tutors were treated to a review of some spring middle-school math topics: statistics and probability. In a lively, informative, and interactive session, Kate Scott, a former math teacher and instructional coach and a current tutor in the Darby Vassal Upper School Learning Center, defined terms, presented examples of middle-school homework problems, and created opportunities for tutors to practice graphing data and determining probability. Because this session was so helpful, Kate will lead a series of math workshops next fall; these sessions will review topics (fractions and number systems) that will run through the math curricula for all middle-school grades for much of the year. Stay tuned!
For our math tutors at CRLS, we held a workshop to help them bridge skills gaps and optimize their work with students. In a thorough and practical session, Dr. Alysa Breyer, Ed.D., CRLS math teacher for 17 years, reviewed the curriculum guides for Algebra 1 and 2 and Geometry, as well as the prior knowledge needed to access that content. Dr. Breyer shared tips and resources for tutors that she and other CRLS math teachers use with students. We’re so grateful for this new collaboration and to have such valuable information available to all of our math tutors going forward.
